If you have kids over at your house all the time, you will definitely know how hard it is to get them to eat their vegetables. So I have been thinking about this and maybe getting them to eat their vegetables will be a battle that can never be won but getting them to drink their vegetables on the other hand…. well….  I can promise you can’t go wrong with this one. Smoothies are a great way to consume large quantities of fruit and vegetables and make sure that you have all the nutrients you need. The same applies for kids, the only secret here is creativity.

So how do you get the kids to drink their smoothies? very simple COLOUR! The more colour the better! Try these lip-smackingly (is that even a word?) tasty smoothies for kids.

 

Green Goodness 

1/2 a cup spinach washed

1/4 cup broccoli (coarsely chopped)

1/2 a pineapple cubed into

1 pear (cubed into 4 cm pieces)

1 cup grapes

1/2 an avocado pitted and peeled

1/2 cup water

1/4 cup ice

How to 

Place all the ingredients in your Vitamix. Starting with your water and ice cubes. Secure the lid

Select the lowest variable. Turn your Vitamix on and slowly increase the speed till you reach the variable 10.

Blend for between 30-50 seconds or until smooth.

Yield 2-3 cups.

 

Just Orange smoothie

4 oranges peeled and halved

1/2 a pineapple cubed

5 medium sized carrots sliced

1 tablespoon freshly grated root ginger

2 cups ice cubes

How to 

Place all the ingredients in your Vitamix as listed.  Secure the lid

Select the lowest variable. Turn your Vitamix on and slowly increase the speed till you reach the variable 10.

Blend for between 30-60 seconds or until smooth.

Yields 4-5 cups.

Sweet Pink Lettuce Smoothie

1 cup chopped lettuce ( Between 250-400 ml)

1 cup grapes

1/2 an apple

A slice of raw beetroot

1 cup ice cubes

How to 

Place all the ingredients in your Vitamix, starting with the grapes and secure the lid. Select the lowest variable.

Turn your Vitamix on and  slowly increase the speed till you reach the variable 10.

Blend for 30-50 seconds or until smooth.

Yields 2-3 cups.

 

All these recipes are rich Vitamins, minerals and natural unsaturated fats to name a few. All good things for your young and old and especially the little ones.
