I’ve always associated oregano with pizza and Italian herb mix and never really thought of it as a medicine. In an article that I recently read I was amazed to find that not only did oregano boost the immune system that it was an excellent remedy for bacteria, parasites and fungus, free radicals, arthritis, headaches, asthma, bronchitis, bladder infections, upset stomach and various heart conditions oral herpes, sinus and acne.
Eating bits of oregano on your pizza or sprinkling some Italian herb mix onto your salad is not going to have much effect for any of these conditions. You would need to use the essential oil Origanum vulgare, either in capsule form or diluted in a carrier oil. You can place a couple of drops straight into your mouth, swish it around your teeth and gums and gargle and swallow but be warned, it is very strong and takes getting used to, but excellent to knock a cold or sore throat on the head. Oregano contains a number of chemical compounds including ursolic and oleanolic acids and phenolic glycosides 71% of the oil. Carvacrol, thymol and terpinine are the active ingredients that have all been well researched for medical use. Oh and by the way, Oregano oil is listed a Generally Recognized as Safe which is the highest safety rating that any substance can have.
Oregano contains amazingly powerful antioxidants that are available when ingested and the oils ability to combat infections has been scientifically proven. When it comes to bacteria, oregano can to protect against and also kill infections including the dreaded staphylococcus, E. coli, Candida albicans, Sclerotinia, Bacillus cereus, Giardia, Aspergillus and Trypanosoma.
One drop of undiluted oil in a glass of water makes an excellent mouthwash. To rid yourself of fungus you can take up to 20-30 drops a day. Capsule of the crude herb can be taken in any quantity. Finally, to rd yourself of fungus in the brain (please don’t think ‘I couldn’t have that’ because we are all suffering from fungal problems, some are just more apparent than others.
